IBIS System
With the Integrated Biometric Identification System (IBIS), you can harness the power of biometrics and use fingerprint and facial information to access centralized databases from the field and get identification information when and where you need it.
Its flexible platform is configurable to work with any PDA and on any wireless network. The system includes an IBIS mobile unit, software for Personal Data Assistants (PDAs) and holsters and delivers tremendous benefits including:
- Make more IDs: The system handles multiple biometrics and can search multiple databases simultaneously. The auto-capture feature on the IBIS handheld increases the quality of data submitted for search so you get better results.
- Experience significant time and cost savings: IBIS provides real-time identification so officers know whether to take an individual through the booking process at a central location, provide a citation on-the-spot or simply release him/her.
How It Works

Step 1: Subject’s photo and forensic quality fingerprints (usually two index fingers, but this can be preset by the agency) are captured on the IBIS handheld device. Auto-capture software maximizes quality of data for search. The fingerprint data is packaged into a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standard record and sent to the Workflow Manager via standard wireless networks (such as CDMA or GSM).
Step 2: The Workflow Manager submits the transactions to one or more designated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and other databases for matching, including, but not limited to: Identix® ABIS® System, third-party AFIS, warrant files, mugshot systems and demographic files. The Workflow Manager processes the match results.
Step 3: If a match occurs, the Workflow Manager retrieves demographics and other information from designated databases, and forwards the identity information – name and date-of-birth – back to the IBIS handheld device wirelessly. A summarized history, recent mug shot or photo, warrant or watchlist information, and other defined file histories, can also be retrieved.
If there is no match, the Workflow Manager wirelessly transmits the “NO IDENT” result to the IBIS handheld. The fingerprint and photo are deleted from the system.
