General Statement of Duties:
We are seeking a contractor for a two-year assignment, with the potential for an additional one-year extension, as a Forensic Examiner in the area of Face Recognition. Automated face recognition is a new technology in law enforcement applications, which allows investigators to conduct searches of crime scene digital assets in law enforcement agency databases. We are looking for a self-starter who can launch a face forensic operation for a major law enforcement organization in the NY/Central NJ area. This position will have high visibility within that agency, and offers a unique opportunity to make a notable impact on how the innovative face recognition technology is adopted by the law enforcement community. The position will be located in Jersey City, NJ and Lower Manhattan, NYC.
Essential Functions:
- Perform all work related to forensic searches in the newly deployed face recognition system
- Provide constructive feedback to L-1 on ways of improving system performance
- Test the system on the initial phases of its deployment
- Advocate system use
- Present at police meetings and workshops
- Train police users and help develop best practices for the crime scene image collection
- Present on system use at L-1 customer meetings and biometric industry and law enforcement conferences
- Testify in court as an expert witness and prepare court exhibits(anticipated future function)
- Provide supervision to other members of the face recognition forensic team as needed
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in an engineering or computer discipline or criminalistics
- Understanding of digital imaging principles such as image resolution, compression, field of view, depth of focus, etc.
- Excellent computer skills
- Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office and Windows OS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills
- Ability to work irregular hours, week-ends, evenings and holidays as needed
- Ability to pass job-required criminal background checks
Qualifications and Experience:
All of the following are desirable:
- Job experience at the level of a forensic expert performing analysis in a forensic laboratory – or – prior work as an engineer at a law enforcement technology vendor – or experience as a graphics designer – or – other relevant professions
- Expertise in anthropology and/or 3D imaging
- Professional certification from International Association for Identification in fingerprint forensics or another evidence processing discipline
- Understanding of modern law enforcement business processes such as case management, booking, AFIS
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the US for any employer. Sponsorship is not available.
